Personal Life Coaching for Direction and Success

Personal life coaching is a trend that began in the nineteen nineties. It usually involves some type of professional providing guidance to another individual on how to get through life events. At its most basic, it is a method of coaching, instructing and training people how to make good choices that will be a benefit to their lifestyle.

This type of coaching has been around for a while but has not gained real popularity or exposure until the nineteen nineties. The methods used utilize several behavior modification techniques to assist clients with meeting future goals, and it draws on several social science disciplines.

Personal life coaching is such a new area that real licensing requirements are not in place for a life coach. It can essentially be done by anyone, though most coaches do have some credentials typically in a social science. It may even be offered by someone with a psychology degree, or a degree in social work, but overall there are generally no requirements.

Typically the coaching itself can take place in several different settings. It can take place in an office setting where the client comes to see the life coach in the office, and it can also take place over the phone. Phone conversations frequently occur as coaching sessions. Email is another way that you can go through life coaching sessions. Personal life coaching also does not have to be done in a one on one basis — It may take place via seminar, lecture series or through tapes and videos.

The practice of this type of coaching has been around since the early nineteen seventies but was more a part of other therapeutic practices. Since that time it has evolved into a standalone type of practice. It is still in its infancy and is still largely self regulated. There are not any set standards for practice; no independent supervisory board evaluates the programs. At this point the government has not considered regulatory requirements need to be instituted.

Personal life coaching can help an individual reach personal goals and future aspirations by teaching an individual how to set goals, modify behavior to reach their set goals and how to enjoy the success of reaching the goals.
